Once your baby arrives you’ll have no idea of how much space they’ll take up! That’s why it’s a great idea during the latter stages of your pregnancy to start making a bit of space for your baby.
As you buy more and more kit for your forthcoming arrival you’ll be wondering where it’s all going to go so take this opportunity to start decluttering now.
You’ll obviously need somewhere to keep your baby’s pram. Most people opt for the front hall for sheer convenience, so make room in the hall now to accommodate your buggy or pram. If you have a hall cupboard, make sure you store all coats and shoes in it to leave floor space free.
You’ll find that your kitchen worktops will be taken up with baby-friendly gadgets such as a blender for purées and a bottle steriliser, so make sure your benches are as clutter-free. Move any electrical gadgets that you don’t use inside your cupboards.
Babies love bathtime and you’ll find that in no time at all you’ve gathered up a load of bath toys and that the bathroom will look as if a bomb has hit it! Invest in a net that will hold all of the toys neatly in one place and buy a cupboard that will hold all of your shampoos and bubble baths. That way the bathroom will still look relatively tidy.
If there’s one thing about young kids it’s that they come with a lot of paraphernalia. If you’re a mum who still likes the house to look reasonably spic and span, source a few pretty storage boxes or baskets. These can be a very practical but still attractive way of holding baby’s toys and books and other baby-friendly kit.
A bedroom that’s entirely dedicated to a baby is an absolute godsend! If you’re lucky enough to have a room you can have specifically as a nursery, use it for everything baby related. That way you can still keep your house relatively neat and tidy. Take this ‘nesting’ opportunity to clear out a load of stuff that you don’t use or need. You’ll find that the decluttering will not only clear your house but can often help clear your mind too!
